The contribution of the cultural and social programming of a safes factory to the upgrading of South Bucharest.
The Hesper factory is a unique case amongst the somewhat sad collection of business premises in Bucharest. Beautiful architecture dating back to the Belle Époque period is located in a well-maintained park. The historic factory buildings stand empty and forlorn. The modern sections of the factory are still used for the production of hydraulic pumps and safes. However, together with Romanian and Norwegian colleagues, we are trying to place the unique characteristics of this location back into the spotlight. The joint design and display of five objects, interactive activities for children from the neighbourhood, cultural events, shows, and workshops all contribute to creating a new and different perception of the factory and showcases an exciting part of Bucharest history and culture to a new public.
